QuadrigaCX Review 2019

QuadrigaCX is a Canadian cryptocurrency exchange which offers users the opportunity to buy and sell Bitcoin and a few other altcoins on its platform. QuadrigaCX was started sometime in 2013 and is registered as a company in Vancouver, Canada.

QuadrigaCX is not regulated in Canada or elsewhere as a cryptocurrency exchange. This is not unusual, given that the cryptocurrency market is generally unregulated. Companies offering exchange services have to rely on the reliability and reputation to sell their services to the crypto trading community.

The QuadrigaCX exchange has put in place some features to enhance the reliability of its platform. These measures include:

  1. The use of cold wallets for the storage of the Bitcoin assets within its network.
  2. High-grade encryption of its platform and data connections.
  3. Protection against hacks using the CloudFlare technology.

However, some issues in its operations have been reported. Majority of these issues have to do with deposits and withdrawals and not the trade process itself.

Trading Platforms

QuadrigaCX offers its exchange services using a state of the art web-based platform. The trading platform presents an Order Book, trading charts, buying/selling interest from traders, and other order information.

The platform is easy to navigate and has features which are user-friendly. With an intuitively designed user interface, traders can buy and sell several cryptocurrency pairs which are listed on this platform. The platform also features live trades of other traders in the market, which also serves to show the bias of market participants towards a cryptocurrency pairing. The drawback of the platform is the lack of technical tools with which to perform technical analysis.

QuadrigaCX Mobile Trading

QuadrigaCX does not offer a mobile app for its users. Rather, the web-based platform is mobile-friendly, allowing users to use the platform on their mobile phones and tablet devices.

Trade Types/Instruments

What are the trade types on QuadrigaCX? The only featured trade types are the Buy and Sell trade types.

QuadrigaCX is a cryptocurrency exchange that has its roots in Canada, therefore it is not surprising that the asset base features the Canadian Dollar as the only fiat currency.  Bitcoin Gold (BTG), Bitcoin (XBT), Litecoin (LTC) and Ether (ETC) make up the rest of the asset listing on QuadrigaCX. These assets are all paired to produce the following asset pairs on the platform:

Account Types

Users of QuadrigaCX are free to open two account types:

  • Personal account
  • Business account

Users are allowed to open both a personal and business account if they so desire. However, the names on the accounts must match the holder’s name (personal) or the business name (business account) found on the company registration documents.

All KYC procedures must be followed. For business accounts, this will warrant the sending of the company registration documents as well as personal identification documents for all listed directors in the company.

Opening an account requires clicking the “Register Now” button on the top right-hand corner of the homepage. Choose the type of account you want to open (personal or business). Enter your email address, full name, date of birth and country where you reside.  Select a password at least 8 characters in length and ensure this password has alphanumeric combinations to make it strong. Choose a 4-6 digit Transaction PIN that will be used for authentication of transactions (deposits and withdrawals). You will receive a welcome email with your details.

Commissions and Spreads

The fee structure that traders will encounter on QuadrigaCX is as follows:

  1. Trading fees: Fees of 0.2-0.5% of transaction value are charged on trades.
  2. Deposit/withdrawal fees (see table below)

Pros and Cons

  • Several means of funding and withdrawing from accounts.
  • Good spread of cryptocurrencies for trading.
  • High liquidity.
  • Advanced trading platform
  • Fiat currency deposits and withdrawals are allowed.

  • Customer support channels are limited, and there are complaints of slow responses to inquiries.
  • Several cases of fiat currency deposits and withdrawals taking weeks to be cleared, and sometimes funds disappearing in transit.

  • Is QuadrigaCX regulated?

No. QuadrigaCX is not a regulated cryptocurrency exchange.

  • Where is QuadrigaCX based?

The QuadrigaCX is based In Vancouver, Canada.

  • How does QuadrigaCX make money?

QuadrigaCX charges trading fees as well as fees on withdrawals.

  • How do I deposit in QuadrigaCX account?

Deposits can be made using USD, CAD as well as the cryptocurrencies that are traded on the QuadrigaCX platform.

  • Is QuadrigaCX a scam?

QuadrigaCX is not a scam even though it is not regulated.

  • How safe is QuadrigaCX?

Users who trade with QuadrigaCX are better off using cryptocurrencies as their deposit and withdrawal methods. Issues with banks and their restrictions on the movement of fiat currencies to cryptocurrency exchanges have caused delays or even disappearance of funds sent using fiat currencies. It is, therefore, safe to use only money you can afford to lose and to use cryptos as the deposit/withdrawal currencies.

Issues with deposit and withdrawal transactions using fiat currency are threatening to put a very dark stain on the operations of QuadrigaCX. Many users are laying complaints on cryptocurrency trading forums about delays in receiving deposits and withdrawals. There are also complaints of customer service representatives ignoring messages until a complaint comes out on a forum for the world to see.

There are, however, users who have registered no complaints about the company. One can, therefore, conclude that the company is having issues coping with the surge of clients that they have had in the last 2 years. The company has to do more to address these complaints.
