Natural Gas Technical Analysis

Natural gas markets have fallen a bit during the trading session on Thursday, showing signs of weakness yet again. However, we have also seen buyers come back into the market, and therefore I think the only thing you can probably count on is a bit of volatility. We had recently seen a massive shot higher, followed by a couple of horrid shots across the bow. At this point, I think that we are on the precipice of perhaps trying to end the trend, but it is typically tough to time something like this. Still, the one thing that gives you the first “heads up” about that possibility is volatility picking up quite drastically.

If we do break above the top of the candlestick for both Wednesday and Thursday, we will likely go looking to reach the $8.00 level above. Breaking above their opens up the possibility of moving back to the high that was made last week. Alternately, if we were to break down below the bottom of the candlestick for the trading session on Thursday, that opens up a move down to the $6.50, as it is the “floor in the market. The 50 Day EMA continues to hang about their as well, so I think that is going to be the most important spot on the chart. As long as we stay above there, you still have to “lean to the upside,” but pay close attention to the volatility profile, it is getting aggressive.
