AUD/USD Fundamental Analysis – November 25, 2015 – Forecast

Analysis and Recommendation:

The AUD/USD matched declines in the US dollar with the Aussie gaining 8 points to trade at exactly 0.72 remaining off its lows from last week even against the strong US dollar.  Caution should be used when piling further into the dollar as the Fed may take a measured approach to hiking rates, seeking not to rattle risk asset markets.

In a letter to US consumer advocate Ralph Nader, Fed Chair Janet Yellen on Monday reiterated that the central bank should only gradually raise interest rates.

The Australian dollar is higher despite a fall in consumer confidence. The latest ANZ-Roy Morgan weekly consumer confidence index is down 1.2 per cent for the week to November 22, extending the 0.6 per cent dip of the previous week.

But the local currency has strengthened after the greenback weakened on disappointing US economic data.

The dollar index stood at 99.668, not too far from the 8-month high of 100.00 struck overnight. The index had fallen to as low as 98.735 late last week in what was considered a corrective phase following days of strong gains fuelled by prospects of tighter U.S. monetary policy.
