AUD/USD Eyes 0.7025 as Rebound Evidence Fails Before the RBA

Key Points:

  • My neutral AUD/USD target is 0.7025 for 27 October, close to the 25 September fix of 0.7019.
  • With no position open, I would treat 0.6940–0.7000 as a fair entry only after turning bullish.
  • A 27 October fix outside 0.6878-0.7132 invalidates the call, and an earlier break means a review rather than a stop.

I ran an Australian dollar decline screen over two periods and found median returns with opposite signs. The history from 2023 had been enough to make me consider a rebound before the RBA meeting, so I checked the years back to 2018. With the earlier years included, I counted 44 episodes, evenly divided between gains and losses, and the median return fell almost to zero. That median, so close to zero, leaves 0.7025 as my central reference for 27 October, and I’m not taking a directional position. My first concern had been Australia’s external deterioration, followed by a tentative recovery view from the recent data. Neither survived the additional calculations as a sufficient reason for me to take a side.
