Key Points:

  • Crude oil futures surge as Trump signals escalation, pushing Brent up 8.77% and shifting oil outlook bullish
  • Markets reprice supply risk as no ceasefire plan leaves Strait of Hormuz flows uncertain and oil demand exposed
  • Physical oil tightens as Gulf exports stall, forcing global buyers to seek alternatives and lift futures prices

Trump Flips the Script and Brent Surges 8.77%

International benchmark Brent Crude Oil and U.S. benchmark WTI crude oil are sharply higher on Thursday after President Trump used a prime-time speech the night before to signal that the United States is not close to ending its military campaign against Iran. Instead of giving traders a clear path to de-escalation that he strongly suggested earlier in the week, Trump flipped the script and said the U.S. would hit Iran “extremely hard” over the next two to three weeks. He also warned that Iranian energy assets could become targets if the current peace talks failed.
