Key Points:

  • Bitcoin briefly jumped above $80,000 and took out another $260 million in short positions as a result.
  • Net inflows to Bitcoin ETFs are lined up to hit levels not seen since September last year, back when the top crypto traded for more than $100K.
  • This rally needs a pullback already, but it should continue toward the $85K and $100K targets afterward.

Bitcoin (BTC) has experienced a 23% jump in the past 7 days and briefly surpassed the $80,000 mark, as market sentiment just took a massive turn and bears got squeezed out of their heavily one-sided positioning.

Short liquidations spiked to more than $400 million in the past 24 hours as BTC rose past this key resistance. In just a week, over $5.3 billion worth of crypto short positions have been wiped out of the futures market, indicating a massive short squeeze still in the making.

The last time we saw liquidations of this magnitude, the latest bear market started. We believe that, as bears get pushed out en masse, the stage is set for the beginning of a fresh bull market for cryptos.

Net Inflows to Bitcoin ETF Seem Lined Up to Hit Levels Not Seen Since September 2025

Wall Street seems to agree with this view, as net inflows to exchange-traded funds (ETFs) spiked to $2.26 billion in the past 6 days. In total, investors have poured more than $2.7 billion into these vehicles in August, as everybody seems to be rushing to capitalize on an upcoming rally.

A simple run rate of this partial figure gives us a projected $3.4 billion in net inflows by the end of the month — the highest print since September–October last year, back when BTC traded above $100,000.

This leads us to believe that the market’s reaction to recent tailwinds has been slower than expected, giving late buyers a chance to still enter this rally as early winners take some profits off the table and traders take a breather.

Whales continue to take positions that favor a bullish outlook, as top wallets holding from 1 to 100,000 coins have added 10,000 more BTC tokens this month.

Notably, larger whales have been the ones accumulating the most. On-chain data from Santiment shows that wallets holding between 10,000 and 100,000 tokens bought 30,000 BTC. This is a clear indication that the smart money is on board with this rally.

The market could be pricing in the approval of the Clarity Act in the United States based on the latest developments. Last week, the SEC’s proposed rules for the crypto industry gave the sector a strong pad in the back from the current administration.

Moreover, President Donald Trump met with top execs from the industry and assured them that he will do his best to get this key piece of legislation approved this year. Passing the Clarity Act could be the catalyst that the market needs to get back on its feet.

BTC Could Soon Rise to $100K After a Much Needed Breather

Turning to the daily chart, we can see that BTC is now trading above the 200-day exponential moving average (EMA). As a result, our baseline scenario for the token is bullish.

We expect a mild pullback shortly, as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) just hit extreme overbought territory. A drop to $75,000 seems likely to tap into the liquidity coming from pending buy orders near key support areas.

Late buyers will likely get the chance to enter this rally at that level. A plausible near-term target for the token would be $85,000, followed by a sustained uptrend to $100K in the next few weeks if bullish momentum resumes.
