What Trading Styles Does Maven Support?

Prop firms often promote “flexible trading conditions,” but the fine print frequently reveals hidden limitations. In my assessment, Maven does allow day and swing trading across multiple asset classes, but it also imposes significant restrictions on news trading, EAs, and copy trading, which may be concerning for legitimate traders. Moreover, it prohibits system exploitation strategies such as tick scalping, arbitrage, and HFT.

News trading is not permitted as it has a four-minute restriction (2 minutes before and after) around news events Standard accounts, including 1 Step, 2 Step, and 3 Step. For Instant and Mini Instant accounts, news trading is allowed without restrictions during both the Evaluation and Funded stages.

Maven supports swing trading, allowing traders to hold positions overnight and over the weekend. Traders must account for associated risks, including swaps, market volatility, liquidity constraints, and spread fluctuations, to effectively manage their trades.

Maven allows scalping, but tick scalping is restricted because trades must be held for at least one minute. This rule helps prevent latency-driven tactics and protects the firm from execution risks.

Maven is ideal for day traders, offering competitive spreads, fast execution, leverage up to 1:75, and access to over 60+ instruments.

Maven does not permit the use of Expert Advisors on MT5, Match Trader, or cTrader under any circumstances. In my opinion, this limitation is unfavourable for traders who depend on automated trading strategies, as it restricts their ability to implement systematic and algorithmic approaches.

Copy trading is not permitted on any account. While Maven does state that trades may be replicated manually, this is considered manual execution rather than copy trading. In my opinion, this can be a limitation for traders who rely on automated trading strategies.

Maven provides access to around 60+ tradable instruments, including Forex, Metals, Energies, Indices, Commodities, and Digital ETFs, enabling traders to diversify their strategies across multiple markets.

Prop Firm Match Rating

Prop Firm Match rating: A decent 4.2/5 (578 reviews, 46% five-star). They only accept firms that pass a strict review process, so you must meet their high standards for integrity and operational quality to be included.

Transparency

Most prop firms aren’t fully transparent, which makes it hard to know what the real rules are. Here’s the straightforward version without the hidden details.

Trading Rules Transparency

Maven offers clear and transparent trading rules, outlining specific profit targets, drawdown limits, and news trading guidelines. However, traders should review the strategy-related restrictions carefully before joining.

  • Restricted Strategies: Prohibited strategies include High-Frequency Trading (HFT), toxic order flow, long or short arbitrage, reverse arbitrage, tick scalping, server execution, hedging, reverse or group hedging, the use of expert advisors (EAs), latency arbitrage, single betting approaches, all-or-nothing strategies, and server flooding.
  • Consistency Rule: The Standard accounts, including the 1, 2, and 3 Step options, have no consistency score. However, a 20% consistency score applies to both the Instant and Mini Instant accounts.
  • Minimum Trading Days: There is no minimum trading day requirement for any account.
  • Minimum Profitable Days: The minimum profitable days requirement applies only to the 2 Step Standard account. To qualify for a payout, traders must have at least three profitable days, each generating a minimum of 0.5% profit.

Payout Transparency

Maven engages its trader community through an active Instagram account with over 25K followers and more than 1,400 posts, regularly sharing payout updates via posts and stories. The firm also maintains a robust Discord community where traders share results and payouts, promoting transparency and confidence among members.

General Transparency

Website: Maven’s website is professional, intuitive, and easy to navigate, providing clear access to challenges, trading rules, terms, and FAQs. The client agreement and terms are readily accessible, enhancing transparency. Designed with traders in mind, the platform features an AI chatbot, search functionality, and responsive support, ensuring a seamless and informative user experience.

Social Media: Maven maintains a robust online presence across multiple platforms. Its Instagram account has around 25K followers and over 1,400 posts, YouTube has more than 9K subscribers with over 300 videos, and TikTok has over 1,200 followers. The firm also has a Facebook community of more than 300 members, a Twitter following exceeding 77K, over 1K followers on LinkedIn, and an active Discord community.

Risk Management: Maven operates under regulatory oversight and upholds structured evaluations with strict risk controls to maintain a stable trading environment. Activities such as high-frequency trading, tick scalping, and group hedging are considered violations and may result in account termination. Despite these restrictions, Maven’s strong payout record and active trading community contribute to its credibility and trader confidence.

Challenges

4.1
How Did We Rate the Firm's Challenges?
Challenges are the gateway to the world of proprietary trading. To assess each firm's challenge structure, we thoroughly reviewed the full range of offerings, evaluating their diversity, complexity, and accessibility. As the industry benchmark, we focused on the two-step challenge. For this challenge type, we analyzed key factors for each step, including profit target, profit-to-drawdown ratio, daily drawdown limit, overall drawdown limit, leverage, maximum risk per trade, time limit, required number of trading days, and minimum profitable trading days. In addition, we assessed the ratio between the profit target and the total drawdown for both steps, which helped us gauge the overall difficulty and fairness of the challenge.
Chart

In my view, Maven offers a well-structured suite of challenges, including Instant, 1-Step, 2-Step, and 3-Step models featuring industry-standard Profit-to-Drawdown ratios. Their unique differentiator is the Maven Mini, a 24-hour challenge. Instant accounts are restricted by consistency scores, and Standard accounts limit news trading, but the prohibition of Expert Advisors (EAs) across all programs is the most significant limitation for automated traders.

Maven Challenge Difficulty vs. Industry Standards

The Challenge Difficulty Metric benchmarks each trading challenge against industry standards to clearly show how hard it is to pass. It factors in profit targets versus drawdown limits, drawdown type, leverage, minimum trading days, and consistency requirements, along with rules on news trading, EAs, and overnight or weekend positions. These elements are combined into a single difficulty rating, helping traders quickly understand their true chances of success.

Very Low Difficulty Low Difficulty Moderate Difficulty High Difficulty Extreme Difficulty

1 Step: The One-Step Challenge leans toward high difficulty due to its structure. It includes an 8% profit target and a 5% maximum drawdown, producing a 1.6 profit-to-drawdown ratio, along with a strict 3% maximum daily drawdown. The equity-based trailing maximum drawdown, combined with restrictions on automated and news trading, further increases the overall level of difficulty.

2 Step: The Two-Step Challenge is categorized as low difficulty. Phase 1 includes an 8% profit target with an 8% maximum drawdown, yielding a 1:1 profit-to-drawdown ratio. Phase 2 offers the profit target of 5% while maintaining the same 8% max drawdown, resulting in a 0.6 ratio. There is no consistency rule which adds great benefit to traders.

3 Step: The Three-step Challenge is categorized as low difficulty. Both the profit target and drawdown limits are 3% in each phase, resulting in a 1:1 ratio. Additionally, there is no consistency rule or minimum trading days which makes it easy for traders.

  • Drawdown Rules: All Maven challenges include both a Daily Drawdown Limit and a Maximum Drawdown. The Maximum Drawdown ranges from 3% to 8% across all account types. It is trailing for the 1 Step, Instant Funding, and Mini Instant accounts, while it remains static for the 2 Step and 3 Step programs. The Daily Drawdown Limit ranges from 2% to 4% and is calculated using the highest end-of-day balance, based on trailing equity or balance, whichever is higher, across all programs.
  • Flexibility: Maven supports a wide range of trading strategies, offering traders significant flexibility. There are no consistency requirements except for the Instant account, and no minimum trading day conditions. Leverage is available up to 1:75, and both overnight and weekend positions are permitted. However, a potential drawback is that automated trading is not allowed, as the use of Expert Advisors (EAs) is strictly prohibited.

Price

4.5
How Did We Rate the Firm's Price?
Challenge cost is a key factor in assessing a prop firm's overall value. In this category, we evaluate how much trading capital a trader receives relative to their entry fee by analyzing the price-to-capital ratio across one-step, two-step, and three-step challenges. To determine whether a firm offers good value for money, we use a simple formula that shows how much trading capital is provided for every 1% of the entry fee paid:
Capital Efficiency = Sum of All Account Balances / Sum of All Challenge Fee
Chart

Maven’s pricing is highly competitive, with all programs offering true cost-per-dollar (TPCD) rates that outperform industry benchmarks. The 1-Step ($13.57) and Instant ($8.14) programs deliver nearly double the value typically seen in the market. In the 2-Step program, although the 8% max drawdown is slightly below industry averages, the overall cost remains attractive, and the TPCD of $17.95 aligns well with competitors. The 3-Step challenge, priced at $14.77, is also on par with industry standards. Maven’s Mini Instant challenge stands out as a unique offering, providing strong value and an appealing TPCD as well.

How Do We Assess The Competitiveness of the Firm’s Costs?

True Capital per Dollar (TCPD)

Prop firm account sizes can look impressive, but they’re deceptive. The advertised balance isn’t real money you can trade; your usable capital is limited by the firm’s maximum drawdown.

That means if a $100,000 account has a 10% drawdown, you can only risk $10,000 before losing the account. The rest is just display, not actual capital.

True Capital per Dollar (TCPD) shows how much real, usable capital you get for every $1 you spend.

Formula:

TCPD=(Account Size×Max Drawdown %)÷Challenge Price

Example:

Account Max DD Price TCPD
$100,000 10% $500  $20
$100,000 6% $350 $17

Even if one challenge costs less, the higher TCPD tells you which option gives more usable capital for every dollar spent. It cuts through the marketing hype and shows what you’re actually paying for, not the illusion of a bigger account.

Maven Cost Competitiveness vs. Industry Benchmark

Challenge Type Funded Drawdown Average Funding Per Dollar Industry Benchmark
1 Step (Standard) 5% $13.57 7.9
2 Step (Standard) 8% $17.95 14.39
3 Step (Standard) 3% $14.77 13.74
Instant Funding 3% $8.14 4.98
Mini (Instant) 3% $8.86 4.98

Refund Policies

Maven offers a risk-free money-back guarantee before trading begins, provided that no terms are violated. Once trading has commenced, fees become non-refundable. The evaluation fee is reimbursed on the third withdrawal for all accounts, except for the Mini Instant account, where the fee is refunded on the first withdrawal made on the next day.

When a funded account is blown, the reactivation fees are as follows:

  • $2K account: $200
  • $5K account: $400
  • $10K account: $750
  • $20K account: $1,400
  • $50K account: $3K
  • $100K account: $6K

Trading Conditions

3.9
How Did We Rate the Firm's Conditions?
Trading conditions are the rules of the game. Understanding them is essential because it directly impacts strategy selection, trade timing, and risk management. To evaluate the full scope of a firm's trading conditions, we examined key elements such as trading fees (including spreads, commissions, and swap fees), available trading platforms, the range of tradable instruments, and the leverage offered. We also reviewed any prohibited trading styles and the presence of a consistency rule, if applicable. In addition, our assessment covered the conditions applied to funded accounts, scaling programs, inactivity policies, and the availability of demo accounts and Islamic (swap-free) accounts.
Chart

Maven offers favorable trading conditions that meet industry standards. Its hybrid account type applies standard commissions to Forex, Metals, and Energies, while Indices, Commodities, and Digital ETFs are commission-free. Traders can use MT5 or Match-Trader platforms with leverage up to 1:75, and a swap-free option is available. The platform provides access to approximately 60+ tradable instruments. The main downside for me is the higher spread compared with other prop firms.

Maven Accounts

Maven offers a hybrid account in which Forex, Metals, and Energies incur standard commissions, while Indices, Commodities, and Digital ETFs are commission-free.

Leverage

Maven provides different leverage levels across its funding programs, with a maximum of 1:75, which is lower than industry standards. The table below summarizes leverage by asset class.

Assets Leverage
Forex 1:75
Commodities 1:20
Indices 1:20
Cryptocurrencies 1:2

Trading Fees

Maven maintains transparent pricing through spreads and trade execution commissions, while there are no overnight swap fees. Its overall cost structure is decent compared with industry standards.

Spreads

Maven’s spreads are higher than the prevailing industry standards. The spread represents the difference between the bid and ask prices of an instrument. The table below shows the spreads for key instruments and provides a comparison with the industry average.

Instruments Spreads Industry Average
EUR/USD 0.5 pips 0.2 pips
BTC $64.5 $35
WTI 0.08 0.03
GOLD 38 cents 26 cents
US30 3 points 3.14 points

Commissions

Maven charges a $4 commission per round lot for Forex and $6 per lot for metals and energies, while indices, cryptocurrencies, and commodities are commission-free, providing a cost-effective structure for diversified trading.

Instruments Maven Account
(Round Turn)
Industry Average
 (Round Turn)
Forex $4 round trip $4 round trip
Metals $6 round trip $4 round trip
Energies $6 round trip $5.8 round trip
Indices $0 (commission-free) $0/Lot (Zero commission instrument)
Commodities $0 (commission-free) $0/Lot (Zero commission instrument)
Cryptocurrencies $0 (commission-free) $0/Lot (Zero commission instrument)

Swap Fees

Maven does not apply swap fees on any of its challenge or funded accounts, which is particularly beneficial for swing traders who hold positions overnight.

Overall Trading Fees

My assessment of overall trading fees takes both commissions and spreads into account. Maven’s fee structure is decent as compared to the industry average, although trading costs for EUR/USD, WTI, and US 30 are relatively competitive. Costs for Gold and crypto, however, remain above typical industry levels.

Instruments Trading Fee Industry Average
EUR/USD $4.5 $6
BTC $64.5 $35
WTI $8 $8.80
GOLD $44 $30
US30 $3 $3.14

Prohibited Trading Styles

Strategy Interpretation
Excessive Scalping Holding 50% or more of your trades for less than a minute is prohibited.
All in Taking a single directional position and holding it until the evaluation is either passed or failed is prohibited.
Gamifying An attempt to not trade and just play random odds of winning, betting solely on the maximum drawdown/take profits of the challenge.
Automated Trading EAs are not permitted under any circumstances across all their platforms.
Reverse/Group Hedging Using the trader’s account to place a position in one direction on a single trade against another account is considered an attempt to reverse the trade of the other account to create a 100% chance of winning.
Hedging Exclusive hedging is not permitted, as it is often associated with EA abuse in demo environments and cannot be reliably mirrored on live servers. Traders may be required to disclose any EA used if such activity is detected.
Prohibitions Against News Trading For all accounts except Instant accounts, opening or closing trades is prohibited within 2 minutes before or after “Red Folder” news events on Forex Factory. Positions opened more than 2 minutes before the event may be held.
Prop Firm Employees Traders affiliated with other proprietary trading firms are not allowed to use these services.

Tradable Instruments

Maven offers access to 60+ trading instruments across forex, metals, energies, indices, cryptocurrencies, and commodities. While the total number of assets exceeds the industry average, it provides sufficient opportunities for portfolio diversification with widely traded, high-liquidity instruments. A detailed overview of the available instruments is provided below:

Maven permits news trading only on Instant accounts. It is restricted on Standard accounts, with a four-minute trading window around high-impact events. Overnight and weekend holding is allowed, and no swap fees apply.

Standard accounts are free from consistency requirements, unlike the Instant and Maven Mini accounts, which mandate a 20% consistency score. The trading rules, including drawdown limits, leverage, and news-trading, remain unchanged from the evaluation to the funded stage. Furthermore, traders can merge their funded accounts up to a maximum capital allocation of $200K.

Consistency Rule

Maven does not apply any consistency requirement to its Standard programs. The 20% consistency score is only required for the Instant Funding program, and the Mini Instant account also carries a 20% intraday consistency requirement.

Scaling Plan

To qualify for scaling, a trader must achieve a total profit of 10% within 4 months, which averages 2.5% per month, and must receive at least one payout each month. Once these requirements are met, the account receives a 25% balance increase.

This process can be repeated until reaching a maximum of $1 million. The maximum withdrawal cap increases as the account scales, while the base maximum withdrawal amount itself does not change.

KYC (Know Your Customer)

Maven requires full KYC verification before issuing a funded account. Traders must submit a valid government-issued ID, such as a national ID, driver’s license, or passport, while residence permits and digital or laminated copies are not accepted. A selfie is required for facial verification and must be completed personally without the use of a VPS or VPN. KYC is typically processed within one business day after responding to the verification email. Traders from non-banned countries may onboard regardless of current residence, provided they use a valid passport or their original national ID.

Payouts

4.5
How Did We Rate the Firm's Payouts?
To evaluate a prop firm's payout structure, we looked at more than just the profit split. We analyzed the profit-sharing terms, along with any bonuses or promotional incentives offered to traders. Our assessment included a close review of payout frequency, the variety of available withdrawal methods, processing times, and any associated withdrawal fees. We also checked for specific conditions tied to first and minimum withdrawals, ensuring traders have transparent and fair access to their earnings.

Maven maintains a strong reputation with consistently verified and reliable payouts, as confirmed by its Instagram and Discord communities. Withdrawals can be requested 10 days after account activation.

For Standard accounts, the minimum withdrawal via Rise incurs a $20 fee. Instant Funding and Mini accounts must reach a minimum of 3% profit to request a payout. Mini accounts allow only one payout. Once the trading conditions are met, the payout can be requested the same day, and it is processed the day after the trading period ends. After the payout is completed, the account is closed.

Profit Split

Maven offers a standard profit split of 80% to the trader and 20% to the firm.

Support

4.1
How Did We Rate the Firm's Support?
In this category, we evaluated the availability and responsiveness of customer support, including the number of contact channels offered—such as live chat, email, and messaging apps. We tested each channel to assess response time, helpfulness, and overall support quality. We also assessed the firm's commitment to trader education by reviewing the range and quality of available learning materials. This included videos, articles, eBooks, webinars, and structured courses aimed at helping traders grow their skills and knowledge.
Chart

Based on experience, Maven provides reliable customer support through an AI chatbot, live agents, email, tickets, and a comprehensive FAQ. The AI chatbot and live agent support are particularly fast and helpful. While Maven’s educational resources provide a solid starting point for new traders, there is a noticeable gap in practical support. Maven currently lacks features such as a weekly news calendar, market research and analysis tools, forecasts, and trader mentorship or trading rooms, all of which could significantly enhance trader development and the overall trading experience.

Customer Support Test

Maven’s customer support is generally reliable. The AI chatbot responds quickly and is helpful, although some test queries showed occasional inaccuracies. Live agent support is professional and responsive, with typical reply times of two to five minutes, and assistance is also available via email around the clock.

Education

Maven delivers valuable educational content through its YouTube channel, providing trading tips and platform insights. Its webinars and blog offer tutorials and industry updates, keeping traders informed about current programs, platform features, and trading opportunities.

The Bottom Line

In my view, Maven operates as a structured and reputable proprietary trading firm with more than 3 years of operation. Maven’s most notable differentiator is the unique Maven Mini, a 24-hour challenge and competitive pricing. While the rules are clear, the trading conditions are slightly below average, primarily due to higher spreads.

Maven provides swap-free accounts, which are ideal for swing traders, but at the same time restricts EAs and Copy Trading, which limits the automated trading capabilities. The 1% max loss rule in the instant account makes trading a bit difficult. It offers two trading platforms ,MT5 and Match Trader and provides access to over 60 trading instruments with a profit split of 80% and scaling potential up to $1 Million which is standard but could be improved.

Overall, Maven appeals to traders seeking flexibility, scalable capital, fast payouts, and strong performance incentives within a professional trading environment.
