Dogecoin (DOGE) is among the worst losers in the top 10 so far this year, booking a 39% retreat in 2026 as the price action continues to break key supports.

Interest for meme coins has waned recently, as the public’s attention has turned to other corners of the tech space like artificial intelligence (AI) and space exploration.

Meanwhile, although market sentiment has improved recently, the macroeconomic backdrop remains unfavorable for the crypto market as a whole, and that is even more real for meme coins as a niche segment.

Persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a hawkish outlook when it comes to the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decisions continue to keep a lid on crypto prices and have pushed investors out of the sector as higher rates favor low-risk assets.

ETF Inflows Evidence Little Interest in Dogecoin by Institutional Investors

Dogecoin has failed to stay above key levels despite its status as the king of this niche. Not even the launch of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States has prevented it from falling off a cliff, and now the price action appears to be eyeing a sustained decline toward the asset’s October 2023 lows.

ETF inflows reveal Wall Street’s little interest in memes, as net assets across all DOGE-linked ETFs currently sit at just $10 million. Comparatively, similar vehicles linked to other large altcoins like Solana (SOL) and XRP (XRP) have net assets exceeding $800 million.

Trading volumes recently hit a high level above $800 million as DOGE dropped below $0.070 for the first time in 30 months. This indicates that buying interest still exists, but does not necessarily mean that the token can’t keep dropping if market conditions remain unfavorable.

DOGE Could Drop to $0.057 Unless It Manages to Recapture a Key Level

Heading to the daily chart, we can see that DOGE could now be eye the $0.057 area, as this is the next major area of support in line if this downtrend persists.

The token is trading 30% below its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA), emphasizing how bad the selling has been as it has managed to push it way off its long-term mean.

Moreover, we can see that DOGE has broken a long-date pattern that previously preceded strong recoveries following a move below 30 in the Relative Strength Index (RSI). The last two times this momentum indicator moved below that level, the price failed to break its previous highs and went on to make a new low shortly afterward.

This is an indication that the narrative that once supported DOGE as a top asset is no longer in play. The playing field for cryptos has changed, and that needs to be acknowledged as long-dated trends are being disrespected by the crypto market over and over again.

That said, the RSI has also formed a bullish divergence that could favor a technical bounce in the near term. It is possible that DOGE may not drop to $0.057 if the $0.07 level manages to hold, as this divergence indicates that the selling pressure is easing.

Divergences like these form when the price continues to drop but the RSI fails to make a lower low. In this case, this is a pronounced divergence as the oscillator has actually made higher lows despite Dogecoin’s latest decline.

To confirm this setup’s bullish bias, DOGE would have to recapture the $0.08 area. In that case, it could rally toward the 200-day EMA as part of a traditional mean reversion pattern.
