Key Points:

  • Gold is outperforming Bitcoin as safe-haven demand remains firm.
  • The gold-to-Bitcoin ratio above 0.05 supports gold’s relative strength.
  • Bitcoin must break above $82,300 to target $100,000.
Gold vs. Bitcoin: XAU/USD Rebounds as BTC Tests $75,000
In this article:

Gold (XAU) and Bitcoin (BTC) moved in different directions as investors assessed geopolitical risks, high bond yields and regulatory uncertainty. Gold recovered toward $4,328 an ounce while Bitcoin fell near $75,000 on Wednesday. Both assets offer the alternative to traditional currencies. But they behave in different ways during periods of market stress. Gold continues to attract defensive demand while Bitcoin remains more sensitive to risk sentiment and regulatory news. This article examines the latest drivers and explains the signals from the gold to Bitcoin ratio to understand the next move in both assets.

Gold Price Rebounds as Bitcoin Falls on ETF Outflows

Spot gold was up 0.8% to $4,328 early on Wednesday following the one-month low on Monday. Some relief was provided by corrections in oil prices. But demand for safe havens remained alive due to Saudi oil supply fears and uncertainty over the Middle East conflict.

Gold was also supported by concerns about the government debt and fiscal stability. But high Treasury yields and strong U.S. dollar limited the recovery. The Fed decision could introduce some volatility in the short term.

Investment demand continues to be the key growth driver for gold. In August, the world’s gold ETFs pulled in $18 billion, according to the World Gold Council. Their holdings grew by 121 tonnes to a record 4,189 tonnes.

People’s Bank of China also bought 20.2 metric tonnes. It was the highest monthly buying volume it had ever recorded since October 2023. But the wholesale demand for gold in China declined due to high prices that brought down purchases of jewelry and bullion. Hence, institutional and central bank demand remains good and physical demand is mixed.

Bitcoin faces the different set of pressures. The price dropped over 3% to $75,500 after the U.S. Senate failed to advance the Clarity Act. The vote was 50-49 in favor but the bill needed 60 votes to move forward. This setback delayed the regulatory clarity expected by crypto industry.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $450.4 million in net outflows on September 15, which reverses the inflows of the previous day. But the cumulative inflows remain close to $54.9 billion. This shows that institutional interest is still significant but the demand in the short term has weakened.

Gold-to-Bitcoin Ratio Signals Gold Outperformance

The monthly chart for the gold to Bitcoin ratio shows that the ratio is trading near 0.057. This means one Bitcoin can buy nearly 17.5 ounces of gold. The increase in the ratio suggests that gold is outperforming Bitcoin. But the drop in the ratio suggests that Bitcoin is performing better. The ratio does not mean that both assets must move in opposite directions. They can rise or fall together but one may move faster than the other.

The chart below shows that the ratio is trading within the descending channel for many years. This reflected the strong performance for Bitcoin against gold. But the ratio found support near 0.026 in 2025 and later broke above the channel resistance. Then, it climbed to 0.08 before pulling back to 0.057.

The key resistance in the ratio is 0.08. A break above 0.11 may suggest a strong rally in the ratio. But the 0.38 level remains the distant barrier in the long term. A break below 0.05 would weaken the relative recovery in gold and expose 0.026 again.

Bitcoin Price Forecast: BTC Tests $75,000

The weekly chart for BTC shows that the price has hit the key resistance at the $82,000 level, as discussed multiple times in previous analyses. After hitting this resistance, the price is showing weakness and continues to correct lower.

The red-highlighted region between $60,000 and $65,000 now becomes the long term support. A break below $60,000 will open the way for further downside toward the $49,100 region. But a recovery and a confirmed break above $82,500 will open the way for a strong rally toward the $100,000 area.

The daily chart below shows that $82,300 remains key resistance in Bitcoin. The price has tested the $75,000 level and remains under pressure. A break below $75,000 will push the price to $70,000. A break below $70,000 will push the price down to the key support at $67,000.

The strong surge from the $67,000 level toward $82,000 remains constructive. Therefore, a break above $82,300 will open the way for further upside toward the $100,000 area.

But a break below $67,000 will indicate that the price will likely drop further toward the $40,000 to $55,000 zone before the next surge in the Bitcoin market.

Bottom Line

Gold has the stronger position in the short term as the demand for safe havens, central bank purchases and ETF inflows continue to support prices. Bitcoin remains under pressure because regulatory uncertainty and ETF outflows have weakened risk appetite. The gold to Bitcoin ratio above 0.05 also shows that gold is still outperforming Bitcoin.

For Bitcoin, $70,000 and $67,000 remain the key support levels, while the confirmed break above $82,300 could open the way toward $100,000. Gold may remain more attractive during market uncertainty, while Bitcoin needs stronger institutional demand and clearer regulation to begin the sustained recovery. But the short term direction in both assets will depend on the interest rate decision. If the guidance by the Fed remains more hawkish, it may keep gold prices under pressure in the short term.
