Key Points:

  • The Fed meeting is now the key catalyst as markets continue pricing a high probability of a September rate hike.
  • Strong ETF inflows and resilient central bank buying continue supporting gold's long-term investment outlook.
  • Gold must reclaim the key $4,150 trendline resistance to confirm a stronger bullish reversal toward $4,200.
  • Silver is attempting to recover above its moving averages, but buyers must clear $59.94 to strengthen momentum.

Gold News: Central Banks Cushion Precious Metals Outlook

Gold and silver fundamentals are supported by central bank policy, geopolitical risks and strong official-sector demand. The ECB kept its deposit rate at 2.25 per cent on Thursday, and the central bank’s president, Christine Lagarde, signalled a willingness to raise rates further if inflation linked to energy costs remained high.

The focus turns now to next week’s meeting of the US Federal Reserve, with most forecasts expecting the US central bank to keep its interest rates unchanged, although the futures market currently implies roughly an 81% probability of a September rate hike. Higher interest rates make the non-yielding asset gold look less attractive.

On the positive side, private demand for gold investment in Europe totalled around 2,200 tonnes in 2025, the ECB has pointed out. That’s close to double 2024’s level. Gold-backed ETFs saw an all-time high of $89 billion of inflows in 2025, buying about 800 tonnes of the metal. Central bank demand for gold slowed recently but remains higher compared with pre-2022, as the ECB added.

Looking further ahead, silver fundamentals look strong on the back of growing industrial demand from solar power, electronics and AI. Investment demand into precious metals has been held back by higher expectations of higher interest rates but industrial consumption and central bank gold buying have remained high and geopolitical risks continue to be high in the precious metals sector

Gold Technical Analysis: Trendline Keeps Pressure on Gold Below $4,150

Gold – Chart

Gold price has rebounded from $4,030 support but remains under a trendline resistance acting as resistance to all major rebounds seen this month. Gold price is around $4,050 level and remains under 50-EMA ($4,067) and 100-EMA ($4,063) today, keeping short-term bias cautious despite rebound.

Next Gold price resistance will be around $4,067, and $4,139 levels and then trendline resistance around $4,150 levels. A sustained move above $4,150 will challenge $4,200 level next. Next support on Gold prices will be around $4,030, $3,998 levels and then $3,957 levels.

RSI recovered to 42.0 level rebounding from oversold area, suggesting that selling momentum is waning, but buyers are not yet confident to buy more at these levels. For Gold prices to invalidate the bearish structure, it needs a decisive close above $4,150, otherwise rebounding rallies will continue meeting selling pressures. Gold Price remains above $4,030 support for the time being, so Gold price could rebound to test the trendline around $4,150 levels.

Silver Technical Analysis: Buyers Defend Support as Downtrend Remains Intact

Silver – Chart

Silver price has rebounded from $57.10 support levels, now price is near $58.23 levels. The recovery has brought Silver price back above 50-EMA ($58.22), while 100-EMA ($58.22) remains flat at near term resistance above. However, the broader trend remains under trendline resistance.

Next Silver price resistance will be around $58.56, $59.94 levels and then trendline resistance around $60.95 level. Next support on Silver prices will be around $57.10, $56.12 levels and then $54.69 level.

RSI rebounded to near 49, indicating selling momentum is waning, but buyer still lack confidence to buy more. Silver price to sustain move above $58.56 resistance and challenge $59.94 level next. Silver price remains under a trendline for now, so rallies might continue to meet selling pressure. Silver price under $57.10 would see broader trend back on the downside.
