Hyperliquid (HYPE) has once again punished one of its most persistent bears, with trader ‘loracle.hl’ now nursing more than $60 million in cumulative losses from repeatedly betting on and against the token.
Loracle.hl (@loraclexyz) has now lost money on three major HYPE trades despite repeatedly switching sides.
In June, the trader closed a $110 million-plus HYPE short at a $46.46 million realized loss after the token rallied sharply against his position. He then flipped bullish, only to eventually lose another $2.33 million on the subsequent long, according to Lookonchain.
Loracle later turned bearish again.
As of Aug. 20, his latest position comprised a 3x leveraged short of roughly 685,740 HYPE, worth about $49.36 million. The position had an average entry near $53.72.
With HYPE trading around $71.98, the short was sitting on approximately $12.52 million in unrealized losses, while generating about $166,500 in funding. Its liquidation price stood near $91.67.
Adding the $46.46 million first short loss, the $2.33 million long loss, and roughly $12.52 million currently underwater on the new short brings Loracle’s HYPE-related losses to about $61.3 million, although the latest loss remains unrealized.
HYPE has surged as much as 24.5% since Aug. 19, jumping to around $72 from an intraday low of circa $58.
Hyperliquid currently restricts US users, so a regulatory path into the world’s largest capital market could significantly expand its potential trading base and, consequently, fee generation across the protocol.
HYPE has entered the breakout stage of a bull flag on the daily chart after surging above the pattern’s upper trendline near $65–$66.
The breakout was accompanied by a noticeable volume spike, strengthening the bullish setup. HYPE is also trading comfortably above its 20-day and 50-day EMAs near $59.4, while the 200-day EMA sits around $51.9.
The flag’s measured-move target points toward roughly $100, implying another 35% upside from current levels.
Still, the daily RSI has climbed above 74, signaling overbought conditions and raising the possibility of a short-term pullback before the rally resumes.
