S&P 500 AI Concentration Nears 40% as History Warns of Bubble Risk

Ten AI-linked giants now command nearly 40% of the S&P 500, echoing the concentration seen before some of history’s worst crashes. AI may transform the economy, but a break below 7,002 could signal that investors have once again paid too much for the future.

The AI boom has taken U.S. equity-market concentration to levels that increasingly resemble some of the most grotesque episodes in financial history. According to Bank of America analysis, the so-called “AI Big 10” – Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Tesla, Broadcom, AMD and Micron – account for close to 40% of the S&P 500. Other measures of market concentration put the combined weight of the largest U.S. stocks even higher.
