Hungary's main exports are machinery and transport equipment, consumer goods, agricultural products, chemicals, apparel, textiles, iron and steel, and wine. Hungary's major imports are machinery and equipment, other manufactures and fuels and electricity. European Union is by far its largest trading partner, accounting for about 79% of exports and 76% of imports.

Hungary’s trade surplus narrowed to EUR 589 million in September 2025 from EUR 886 million in the corresponding month a year ago but above market forecasts of EUR 557 million, as exports rose less than imports. Year-on-year, exports grew by 4.9% to EUR 13,124 million, while imports increased by 7.8% to EUR 12,535 million. Considering the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade surplus widened to EUR 7,780 million from EUR 7,079 million in the same period last year.
