Friday brings the latest US inflation data, so let’s find out more.
But first, there’s the closely watched preliminary German first quarter GDP, which is out at 6 AM. The economic growth picked up some speed at the end of 2016, but it still was smaller than anticipated.

The final reading of German April CPI comes at the same time. The annual inflation rate rebounded in March from the 4-month low reached in February.
Euro Zone Industrial Production for March will be available at 9. Output saw an unexpected decline in February, fully reversing a point 3% gain the previous month.
A couple of high importance news releases regarding the US economy in April are up next at 12:30 PM GMT, and the Consumer Price Index is one of them. Energy prices remained the main influence in March as they pushed the annual inflation to a three-month low.
Preliminary Retail Sales are out at this time as well. Sales have been declining for the past 2 months, and this has gotten some traders cautious; however, this release is expected to show a strong recovery.
Another higly anticipated news release, the Preliminary May University of Michigan Consumer Confidence, follows at 2. The initial April reading showed a solid improvement, but it was eventually revised downwards.
And US Business Inventories for March will be available at the same time. Inventories continued growing at a steady point 3% pace the previous month.
