Wall Street Starts a New Year, Light Data from North America Today

North American markets will open today after their long holiday weekend. While trading volumes will likely be rather light, Wall Street will be watched closely to see how it starts the New Year. Data from the States will be minuscule today, but important numbers will be delivered over the next few days culminating in the jobs statistics on Friday.

Solid Gains on Hang Seng this Morning, Good Services Figures from China

The Caixin Manufacturing reading for China was stronger than its estimate early today with an outcome of 51.5. And equities on the Hang Seng and Shanghai Shenzhen composites have opened with solid gains. Japan will be on holiday until Thursday. The Caixin Services data for China will be released on Thursday.

Mid-Term Values Approached by Euro & Pound, Inflation Data Looms

The Euro and Pound are trading near mid-term highs against the U.S Dollar which were accomplished in September. Manufacturing data will come from the U.K today and important inflation data will come from the European Union on Thursday.
