The crude oil market continues to see a lot of pressures, as we are still seeing a lot of producers flood the market with supply. At this point, the markets look soft overall.
The light sweet crude oil market initially did try to rally during the trading session here on Thursday but gave back the gains to show signs of weakness yet again. Crude oil, I think continues to suffer at a massive amount of oversupply as OPEC, Russia and the United States are all pumping more than is necessary and just flooding the market with supply.
So, with that, I think you will continue to see a lot of downward pressure overall, and I suspect it is probably only a matter of time before we see some type of attempt to get back down to the lows. If we break to the upside, the $65 level is an area I’ll be watching very closely as it is an area that’s been both support and resistance multiple times in the past and of course is a large, psychologically significant figure.
The Brent market is very much in the same situation here, where we tried to rally and then we just gave it up. I think we probably fall right back into the consolidation that we have seen over the last week or two, as there’s really nothing going on that should change anything at this point. Ultimately, this is a market that I think will just move right along with all other grades of oil, as we just don’t have anything good out there for oil due to the fact that there is so much in the way of supply. And that, of course, is going to kill pricing power. Furthermore, if we do have an economic slowdown, that also works against the idea of demand, so at this point, I think we continue to see crude oil act a bit soft.
