Crude Oil Price Outlook – Crude Oil Continues to Grind Away to the Upside

The crude oil markets continue to see a general up trending attitude, but at the same time, it is obviously struggling with momentum. At this point, the support holds, but the buyers are tentative to say the least.

WTI/CL Technical Analysis

The light sweet crude oil market has shown itself to be bullish again during the early part of the Friday session. But we do continue to give back gains rather quickly. This is a market that I think will remain very choppy, very noisy on the way higher. The market is now above the 50 day EMA. But again, we’ve given back so much of the gains early in the session, one has to wonder how much sustainable power there is.

I think this is a major problem for the crude oil markets right now due to the fact that we just don’t have much in the way of volume. It doesn’t seem like we have any real directionality, but we are in a consolidation area with the $65 level on the bottom offering a floor and the $70 level on the top offering a ceiling. I think if you’re careful, you can trade this market, but you’re going to have to temper your expectations for momentum.

Brent Technical Analysis

Brent looks very much the same. Although it is further from its support level than the light sweet crude oil market is, at least a little bit. But I think at this point in time, we could go looking at the 200 day EMA. Eventually, it’s going to be a struggle and a grind to get up there, with a lot of back and forth short term trading. But I do think that’s how this plays out before it’s all said and done. Ultimately, I have no interest in shorting this market, but if we do pull back, I’ll be looking for a bounce that I can take advantage of in order to get cheap oil.
