Daily Gold News: Friday, Dec. 31 – Gold Is Closer to Local Highs Again

The gold futures contract gained 0.46% on Thursday, as it remained close to the recent local highs and above the $1,800 price level. Last week the market broke above that level again and it fluctuated following the advance. On Tuesday the yellow metal’s price reached the new local high of $1,821.60. And in mid-December it fell to the local low of $1,753. This morning gold is trading close to its Tuesday’s local high, as we can see on the daily chart (the chart includes today’s intraday data):

Gold is 0.3% higher this morning, as it is extending a short-term advance above the $1,800 level. What about the other precious metals? Silver is 0.6% higher, platinum is 0.8% lower and palladium is 1.6% lower. So the main precious metals’ prices are higher this morning.

Yesterday’s Unemployment Claims release has been lower than expected at 198,000 and the Chicago PMI release has been higher than expected at 63.1.
