Key Points:

  • Ethereum’s four-hour chart is showing a potential Wyckoff distribution setup, with a breakdown below $2,400 exposing ETH to roughly $2,270.
  • The $2,270 target aligns with Ethereum’s 200-period EMA, adding technical confluence to the bearish scenario.
  • A breakout above $2,530-$2,550 would weaken the bearish thesis and could activate a bull flag target near $2,880.

Ethereum’s native token, Ether (ETH), could fall toward $2,270 in the coming sessions as a bearish Wyckoff distribution structure develops on its four-hour chart.

ETH Wyckoff Distribution Setup Points to $2,270

ETH rallied sharply from around $1,900 to above $2,500 in late August, gaining roughly 30% within days.

But the upside momentum has since stalled, with Ether consolidating between approximately $2,400 and $2,530. The sideways structure increasingly resembles a Wyckoff distribution pattern, which typically forms near the end of an uptrend as stronger market participants gradually sell into remaining demand.

The first surge toward the $2,530 area appears to mark a potential buying climax (BC), where aggressive demand peaked following ETH’s near-vertical rally.

Ether then pulled back toward the $2,400 region, establishing what could be the pattern’s automatic reaction (AR).

Since then, ETH has made several attempts to revisit the $2,500-$2,530 resistance area without achieving a sustained breakout. These repeated failures resemble secondary tests (STs) and suggest buyers are struggling to push the market beyond its post-rally highs.

More recently, ETH dropped back toward the lower end of the trading range near $2,400. That move could represent a sign of weakness (SOW), an important stage in Wyckoff distribution where selling pressure begins to dominate near range support.

The subsequent rebound toward $2,480-$2,500 may therefore develop into a last point of supply (LPSY) if sellers return around the upper portion of the range.

A decisive break below $2,400 would strengthen the bearish setup.

The trading range measures roughly $130 from top to bottom. Subtracting that distance from the $2,400 breakdown level produces a technical downside target near $2,270, about 9% below ETH’s current price near $2,488.

Notably, Ethereum’s 200-period exponential moving average (200-period EMA, blue) is also sitting near $2,270, reinforcing the area as a potential downside target.

What If The Bearish Ethereum Setup Fails

The bearish Wyckoff thesis would weaken if ETH instead breaks decisively above the $2,530-$2,550 resistance zone, raising the possibility that the range represents reaccumulation rather than distribution.

A potential bull flag on Ethereum’s four-hour chart also supports that bullish interpretation.

ETH has consolidated between roughly $2,380 and $2,530 after its sharp rally from around $2,050, a structure that could resolve higher if buyers reclaim resistance.

A decisive breakout above $2,530-$2,550 would weaken the Wyckoff distribution thesis and could open the door toward the bull flag target near $2,880, or about 16% above current levels.

Until then, ETH remains range-bound below resistance, keeping the bearish scenario intact.
