Oil News: Diesel Release Pressures WTI as OPEC+ Shortfall Keeps Brent Firm

Key Points:

  • Europe’s diesel-reserve release pushed WTI to $88.06, while December Brent barely moved on Friday.
  • OPEC+ held November targets steady, but core-member output remains about 5 million bpd below prewar levels.
  • WTI needs to hold $90.12–$87.39 support; Brent buyers are defending the $101.50–$99.20 retracement zone.

Europe agreed to release diesel reserves Friday after President Trump pressed the region on fuel prices. French officials proposed 50 million barrels of diesel and a separate 50 million barrel crude release from IEA members. WTI sold to $88.06 on it. December Brent crude oil futures barely moved, settling down six cents. The crude market priced the release differently depending on which contract traders were watching. The release puts barrels into a tight market. It does not restore the refining capacity that made the market tight. OPEC+ held November targets steady Sunday. The Houthis said Saturday they targeted an Aramco facility in Riyadh with ballistic missiles and drones. Crude went into the weekend with temporary supply relief on one side and live military risk on the other.
