The US stock market got thrown around during a very volatile Thursday session as tariffs were slapped on Mexico, Canada, and the EU. Quite frankly, I think that a lot of the machines don’t know what to do with this information, and therefore that’s why we have seen so much in the way of noise. We sold off rather hard, and then sat still.

Dow Jones 30

The Dow Jones 30 fell significantly during the trading session, slicing through the 24,500 level, slamming into the 24,400 level, and then stabilize a bit. All things being equal, I find it kind of impressive that we didn’t fall more than 0.8% after the tariff was announced. In some sense, that could be thought of as a victory. It is because of this that I think it’s only a matter of time before the buyers return. However, I might give it at least 24 hours to sit still first.

NASDAQ 100

An even more perplexing move, the NASDAQ 100 fell, bounced above significant resistance, and then pulled back to test it again. As I record this the market is dancing around the 7000 level, which has been an area of extreme focus as of late. I think we are going higher in the NASDAQ 100 eventually, and that short-term dips will be buying opportunities. In fact, I believe the NASDAQ 100 is probably going to be the leader of all of the indices that I follow here at FX Empire. I think it’s only a matter time before you go looking towards the 7200 level, and that the NASDAQ 100 will probably drag the other indices higher with it, even if it is kicking and screaming as there are so many headwinds out there suddenly.
