Bullish Structure Holds Near Recent Highs
WTI crude oil has been consolidating in a position of strength following Tuesday’s high of $103.42, with the relatively shallow pullback suggesting that buyers may be preparing for another attempt to extend the advance. A 78.6% Fibonacci retracement of the prior decline was reached during the advance at $103.15, marking a key target where resistance emerged and sellers regained control after crude oil established a new high of $103.42. An intraday pullback followed, completing a 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of the preceding advance and successfully testing support near the 10-day moving average.

Key Support Defines Downside Risk
A sustained recovery from the $97.17 retracement low would be particularly bullish, given the relatively minimal retracement that occurred. This would suggest that crude oil could break above $103.42 eventually and extend its short-term advance before a deeper pullback. Nevertheless, $97.17 is key near-term support, as a decline below it would signal a bearish reversal of the advance and a break beneath the 10-day moving average.

The next support level below $97.17 appears near the lower swing high at $96.25, followed quickly by the rising 20-day moving average near $95.58. Holding support above that trend indicator is key to maintaining underlying momentum that emerged after the bullish trendline breakout triggered a couple of weeks ago.
Inside Days Tighten the Breakout Setup
Thursday’s session is on track to complete the second consecutive inside day, with its trading range contained within Wednesday’s range. Wednesday’s range, in turn, was contained within Tuesday’s range. This reflects price contraction as momentum builds within the small consolidation pattern. The consolidation is characteristic of a bullish pennant pattern, although further price development is needed to confirm its formation.
An upside breakout would initially be signaled on a move above Wednesday’s high of $102.37, with a more decisive bullish signal emerging above $103.42. Such a breakout would confirm renewed buying pressure and strengthen the case for an extension of the advance. Until then, the $97.17 low remains the key downside level to watch, defining the support that buyers need to defend and preserve the bullish outlook.
