Bulgaria’s annual inflation rate rose to 5.3% in July 2025 from 4.4% in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since November 2023, driven by higher costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.6% vs 7.5% in June), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.6% vs 6.9%), housing utilities (8.4% vs 6.7%), communication (4.1% vs 1.6%), recreation and culture (14.5% vs 9.9%), education (7.9% vs 7.2%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.9% vs 3.5%). Additionally, prices declined at a softer pace for transport (-1.9% vs -2.3%) and furnishings and household equipment and maintenance (-0.7% vs -0.9%). Meanwhile, inflation softened for restaurants and hotels (8.3% vs 9.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 1.7% in July from 0.4% in the preceding period.
