Malaysia’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.0% in May 2025 from 3.3% in the same month a year earlier, marking its lowest level since April 2015 for the second consecutive month. The number of unemployed persons fell 5.7% year-on-year to a more than five-month low of 522.4 thousand, while employment rose 2.9% to a record high of 16.86 million. In the meantime, the labor force participation rate increased to an all-time high of 70.8% in May, up from 70.6% a year earlier, pointing to the second successive month at this record level.
