New Zealand Tourist Arrivals

Visitor arrivals to New Zealand dropped by 8.4% year-on-year to 311,800 in March 2025, marking the second consecutive monthly decline. The decline was likely influenced by the timing of Easter, which fell later in 2025 compared to 2024. Arrivals from Australia dropped the most, falling by 13,800, while the United Kingdom and United States also saw decreases. In contrast, visitor numbers from China, Indonesia, and Japan rose modestly. The March 2025 total was 82% of pre-pandemic levels recorded in March 2019. Australians made up the largest share of visitors at 37%, followed by the United States (16%), China (7%), and the United Kingdom (6%). Despite the year-on-year dip, the country continues to draw strong interest from key international markets.
