Slovakia Retail Sales YoY

Retail sales in Slovakia fell 2.6% year-on-year in February 2025, marking the largest decline since December 2023 and reversing a 0.8% increase in January. The sharp drop was driven by lower sales across nearly all categories, particularly cultural and recreational goods (-20.7% vs. -5.9% in January), food, beverages, and tobacco (-11.6% vs. -9.1%), and automotive fuel (-9.8% vs. -4.3%). Sales also declined for household equipment (-9.5% vs. -8.7%), non-store retailing (-3% vs. +2.3%), and trade in stalls and markets (-2.6% vs. -8.4%). Meanwhile, only sales of other goods in specialized stores recorded growth, rising 5.3% after a 7.2% increase in January. On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.8%, easing from a 9% drop in the previous period.
