Analysis and Recommendations:

The EUR/JPY is flat in the morning session at 136.07 as traders remain sidelined as the month draws to a close. Eurozone inflation is due later in the session and UK traders are on vacation.  Analysts predict that worries about a slowdown in China and other emerging economies will weigh on the yen.  Some are even braced for a possible rekindling of global equity sell-offs.

Although the weakness of the preliminary Caixin China manufacturing industry purchasing manager index for August, released a week ago, “had already been expected, the data became a negative factor,” Hiwada said.

On Tuesday, the revised purchasing managers’ index for August will be released. Also on Tuesday, the Chinese government will release its own manufacturing and nonmanufacturing industry PMIs for the same month.

A measure on both business and consumer sentiment in the Eurozone crept higher and topped market projections. The Economic Sentiment Indicator climbed from 104 in July to 104.2 in August.
