The wholesale price index reflects the prices trends for goods that are sold by wholesale enterprises. The prices of the 387 items contained in the basket of goods are surveyed at around 200 wholesale enterprises, which voluntarily provide approximately 1400 wholesale selling prices (exclusive VAT) every month.

Latest Updates

Wholesale prices in Austria rose 16.5% year-on-year in November of 2022, sharply less than the 21.2% increase in the previous month. Still, the latest reading suggested inflation pressures remained high, mostly on the back of rising cost of industrial chemicals (101.8%), followed by solid fuels (67.5%) and other liquid & gaseous fuels & related products (63.6%). Further upward contributions came from continued high prices for motor spirit (29.9%), dairy products, eggs and edible oils & fats (28.8%), stationary (27.8%), and fertilizers & agrochemicals products (27.7%). On a monthly basis, the index declined 3%, after a 3.1% gain in the previous month.
