China’s surveyed unemployment rate edged down to 5.1% in April 2025, compared to both market expectations and the previous month’s figure of 5.2%. This marked the lowest reading since December 2024. The jobless rate among the locally registered labor force fell to 5.2%, while the rate for the non-locally registered labor force was lower at 4.8%. Within this group, individuals with agricultural registration saw an even lower jobless rate of 4.7%. Across 31 major cities, the urban surveyed unemployment rate also stood at 5.1%. Meanwhile, the average weekly working hours for employees in enterprises nationwide reached 48.3 hours. For the first four months of the year, the national urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 5.2%.
