Consumer prices in El Salvador declined 0.11% year-over-year in August 2025, slightly less than June’s 0.14% drop, marking the fifth straight month of deflation. Food and alcoholic beverages led the downward trend, falling for the eleventh straight month (-1.24% vs. -1.85% in July). Declines also were seen in transport (-3.78% vs. -2.12%), clothing and footwear (-0.79% vs. -0.86%), household goods (-1.25% vs. -0.77%), and communication (-0.35% vs. -0.44%). Meanwhile, prices rose in restaurants and hotels (2.86% vs. 2.79%), healthcare (2.07% vs. 2.15%), and housing and utilities (2.21% vs. 2.38%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.36% in August, after increasing 0.33% in July.
