Latvia exports mainly wood and wood products, machinery and equipment, iron and steel, textiles and foodstuffs. Latvia's main export partners are Lithuania, Russia, Estonia, Germany and Sweden. Latvia imports machinery and equipment, chemicals, fuels and vehicles. Main import partners are Lithuania, Germany, Russia, Poland and Estonia.

Latvia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 464.4 million in June 2025, widening from EUR 332.1 million in the same month a year ago, as imports rose while exports fell. Year-on-year, imports increased by 5.4% to EUR 1,862.3 million, mainly driven by higher purchases of machinery & mechanical appliances (18.6%), vehicles and their equipment (12.3%), and chemical industry and related products (9.7%). Imports grew from the EU (5.2%) and other countries (26.9%), while it declined sharply from CIS countries (-64.9%). Meanwhile, exports dropped by 2.6% to EUR 1,397.9 million, primarily due to reduced sales of plant products (-27.9%), wood and its products, charcoal exports (-8.1%), and base metals and their products (-18.6%). Outbound shipments decreased to CIS (-0.1%) and other countries (-11.4%), while it increased to EU countries (0.1%).
