Romania's trade deficit narrowed to EUR 2.6 billion in August 2025, from EUR 2.9 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports rose by 3.6% year-on-year to EUR 6.8 billion, driven mainly by increased sales to EU countries, which grew by 1.2%, and to non-EU countries, which climbed by 9.2%. Meanwhile, imports declined by 0.5% year-on-year to EUR 9.4 billion, as a decrease in purchases from non-EU countries (-3.2%) outweighed a slight increase from EU countries (0.8%). For the first eight months of the year, the trade deficit widened to EUR 21.9 billion, compared to EUR 20.9 billion in the same period of the previous year.
