Food prices in Tanzania soared by 9.1% from a year earlier in October of 2022, up from an 8.3% rise in the previous month. It was the highest reading since September of 2017. On a monthly basis, food prices were up by 0.6%, after rising by 0.3% in the previous month, with price increases observed mostly for rice (4.3%), finger millet grains (0.6%), maize grains (2.0%), maize flour (3.2%), poultry (0.7%), fresh fish (0.4%), fresh sardines (8.9%), fruits (0.7%), dried beans (3.9%) and soya (5.1%). Conversely, prices were down for wheat grains (-0.6%), cooking oil (-0.9%), groundnuts (-0.6%), vegetables (-1.1%), round potatoes (-5.6%), sweet potatoes (-1.6%), fresh Cassava (-1.2%) and cooking bananas (-3%).
