In the UK, new orders in construction measures the value of new orders of main contractors by type of work and region within Great Britain. Since April 2013, data have been supplied directly from Barbour ABI with a sample size of all local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales, plus 10,000 contractors per year.

UK construction orders surged 10.5% year-on-year in Q1 2025, recovering from an upwardly revised 0.2% growth in the previous quarter. This marked the strongest growth in construction orders since Q2 2024, as orders for all other work soared by 19.0% in Q1, sharply accelerating from a 4.6% rise in Q4. In contrast, new housing orders continued to decline (-12.2% vs -10.8% in Q4), with private housing orders falling at a much faster pace (-17.2% vs -4.2%), while public housing rebounded strongly (34.6% vs -43.3%). On a quarterly basis, construction orders jumped 26.6%, the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2020, rebounding sharply from an upwardly revised 3.7% drop in Q4.
