The number of payrolled employees in the United Kingdom fell by 10 thousand to 30.3 million in September 2025, after a revised 10 thousand rise in the previous month. Compared to the same month last year, payrolled employment dropped by 0.3% or 100 thousand, with the biggest fall seen in the accommodation and food service activities sector (-59 thousand). Across regions, Westminster saw the largest decrease in payrolled employees (-2.9%), while Mid Ulster recorded the highest increase (+1.8%). Meanwhile, the median monthly pay increased by 5.5% year-on-year to £2,546. Annual growth in median pay was the highest in the transportation and storage sector (8.0%), while the lowest was in the professional, scientific and technical sector (3.0%).
