The US stock markets went sideways initially during trading on Wednesday, as the markets continue to hang about in general. That’s a very strong sign, as the recent selloff’s have been rather brutal. The fact that the market comes down gives me a bit of hope.

Dow Jones 30 daily chart, March 29, 2018

Dow Jones 30

The Dow Jones 30 spent most the day on Wednesday hanging about the 23,800 level, an area that has been support in the past. I think that we are likely to find buyers, but we need to see a bit of momentum before I’m willing to put some money to work. If we can break above the 24,000 level for a couple of hours, I would be a buyer at that point, looking to reach 24,400, and then 25,000. As for selling, I’m not ready to do so quite yet, but if we made a fresh, new low, the market would probably go down to the 23,000 handle. I believe that most of this will be influenced by the latest headlines involving the potential trade war.

NASDAQ 100

The NASDAQ 100 continues to bounce around the 6500 level, an area that has been support in the past. I think if we break down from there, we could go to the 6300 level, but more than likely I think that the market could probably break above the 6550 handle. If we can break above that level, then I think the market goes to the 6700 level. I believe that if we can break above there, the market will then go looking towards the 6800 level after that. The NASDAQ 100 typically will lead the rest of the indices in America higher or lower, so of this one rallies, it would be a very good sign for stock markets overall.
