Analysis and Recommendations:

The EUR/GBP climbed 53 pips with the euro winning the race. Both currencies traded lower but the heaviest weight was on the GBP which took a major fall, whereas the euro retreated to its prior range after climbing yesterday. The euro was able to gain momentum here. The pound has fallen to a 15-month low against the euro, with an exchange rate of just €1.14. It is faring little better against the US dollar, with the exchange rate falling to an eight-month low of $1.53. This equates to a drop of 7 per cent and 5 per cent respectively since the start of 2013.

Sterling stole the limelight in the European session, tumbling to its lowest in more than 8 months against the dollar and a 16-month trough versus the euro after minutes from the latest Bank of England meeting showed policymakers were willing to ease policy further.

Investors will now turn to the release of minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting. Any hint the Fed is getting closer to paring back its asset purchase scheme could help lift the dollar broadly.
