The EUR/JPY is trading at a record high of 113.60. European markets were shuttered yesterday for Boxing Day, but the euro still gained against most of the crosses as traders left the safety of the US dollar and moved to more risk. On the other side of the Pacific, the battle between the new government of Japan and the central bank waged on, with the Prime Minister officially in office yesterday said that the government would do everything it could to stimulate the economy, no matter the effect on the yen. This helped equities to soar as the JPY reached historic lows not seen since 2010.
Today focus will remain on US lawmakers with little in the way of eco data or news scheduled ahead of the New Year holiday. Markets are expected to remain thin and calm over the next day or so.
