Brazil's industrial production edged up 0.1% in April 2025 from the previous month, slowing sharply from a 1.2% gain in March and matching market expectations. Out of 25 industrial sectors surveyed, 13 recorded increased output. The biggest contribution came from extractive industries (+1.0%), beverages (+3.6%), petroleum derivatives and biofuels (+3.4%), trailers and bodies (+1.0%) and printing and reproduction of recordings (+11%). In contrast, production declined sharply in pharmaceuticals and chemical products (-8.5%) and petroleum products and biofuels (-3.8%). On a year-over-year basis, industrial production contracted by 0.3% in April, following an upwardly revised 3.2% increase in March, well below market forecasts of 0.2% growth.
