Brazil's industrial production grew 1.2% month-on-month in March 2025 from flat reading in the previous month, above market estimates of a 0.3% increase to mark the sharpest growth rate in nine months. Of the 25 industrial sectors surveyed, 16 reported an expansion in production, with the pharmaceutical and chemical products sector showing the largest increase (13.7%). Other sectors expanded at a slower pace pace, such as machinery and equipment (3%), petroleum products and biofuels (3.4%), extractive industries (2.8%), motor vehicles and bodies (4.0%), clothing and accessories (4.1%), furniture (5.6%), machinery and equipment (1.7%) and miscellaneous products (5.0%). Among the nine sectors that showed a decline in production, chemical products (-2.1%) and food products (-0.7%) stood out. In the annual comparison, industrial production grew 3.1% in March, following a 1.5% increase in February and also exceeding market forecasts of 1.4% growth.
