Czech Republic is intensively involved in international trade. It engages in the export of numerous manufactured goods that are used in the production of automobiles, furniture, and electrical appliances. Czech Republic imports mainly machinery and transportation equipment, raw materials, fuels and chemicals. European Union is by far its largest trading partner, accounting for about 83% of exports and 65% of imports.

The Czech Republic trade surplus widened to CZK 29.7 billion in September 2025 from a CZK 23.2 billion in the corresponding month last year and exceeding market expectations of CZK 23.5 billion. Exports rose by 3.7% year-on-year to CZK 420 billion, while imports advanced at a softer 2.3% to CZK 390.3 billion. The balance was supported by higher surpluses in motor vehicles by CZK 5.2 billion and in machinery and equipment by CZK 1.4 billion. At the same time, the chemical substances and preparations deficit narrowed by CZK 1.5 billion. Meanwhile, the balance was unfavorably affected by trade in computers, electronic and optical equipment, in metal products, and in electricity. Considering the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade surplus reached CZK 170.8 billion from CZK 180.6 billion a year earlier, as exports grew 3.4% and imports rose by 3.9%.
