Latest Updates
The unemployment rate in Macau rose slightly to 2.0% in the three-month period ending July 2025, the highest since March 2024, up from 1.9% in the previous period. The increase was mainly driven by a surge in new labour market entrants seeking their first jobs during graduation season, with their share rising 2.7 percentage points to 13.7% of unemployed residents. The total number of unemployed individuals increased modestly by 350 to 7,600, while overall employment dipped 300 to 371,500. Most jobseekers had previously worked in the retail trade, construction, and gaming sectors. The labor force fell to 379,100, with male participation remaining higher (70.7%) than female participation (62.8%).
