On July 18, 2025, the University of Michigan released Michigan Consumer Sentiment report. The report indicated that Michigan Consumer Sentiment increased from 60.7 in June to 61.8 in July, compared to analyst forecast of 61.5.

Current Economic Conditions increased from 64.8 in June to 66.8 in July, while Index of Consumer Expectations improved from 58.1 to 58.6.
Year-ahead inflation expectations decreased from 5.0% in June to 4.4% in July. Long-run inflation expectations pulled back from 3.6% to 4.0%. Both readings remain well above levels seen in December 2024.
The University of Michigan commented: “Consumers are unlikely to regain their confidence in the economy unless they feel assured that inflation is unlikely to worsen, for example if trade policy stabilizes for the foreseeable future.”
U.S. Dollar Index pulled back as traders reacted to Consumer Sentiment data. Currently, U.S. Dollar Index is trying to settle below the 98.10 level.

SP500 settled near the 6310 level after the release of the Michigan Consumer Sentiment report. The better-than-expected report may provide additional support to stocks and push them to new highs.
