In Slovakia, the most important industries are engineering, chemical, electrotechnical engineering, wood-processing and food industry. On the expenditure side, household consumption is the main component of GDP and accounts for 57 percent of its total use, followed by gross fixed capital formation (21 percent) and government expenditure (19 percent). Slovakia’s economy grew by 0.9% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, matching preliminary estimates, down from a 1.7% growth in the previous period. This marks the slowest economic expansion since Q1 of 2023, attributed to moderated growth for government spending (1.2% vs 2.3%) and household consumption (0.5% vs 3.2%). Additionally, gross fixed capital formation reflected a softer contraction (-8% vs -11.4%). Net trade also contributed negatively to the GDP growth, as imports advanced 8.9%, while exports rose at a softer 6.2%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy rose by 0.2% in Q1, following a 0.4% increase in the prior period.
