Latest Updates

Slovakia’s economy grew by 0.9% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, matching preliminary estimates, down from a 1.7% growth in the previous period. This marks the slowest economic expansion since Q1 of 2023, attributed to moderated growth for government spending (1.2% vs 2.3%) and household consumption (0.5% vs 3.2%). Additionally, gross fixed capital formation reflected a softer contraction (-8% vs -11.4%). Net trade also contributed negatively to the GDP growth, as imports advanced 8.9%, while exports rose at a softer 6.2%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy rose by 0.2% in Q1, following a 0.4% increase in the prior period.
