The annual inflation rate in South Sudan dropped to 1.3 percent in March 2023 from 13.4 percent the month before. It was the lowest rate in three months due to sharp declines in the cost of alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-37.0 percent vs -41.1 percent in February) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (-7.0 percent vs 8.2 percent). At the same time, there were smaller increases in the prices of furnishing & household equipment (14.5 percent vs 31.9 percent), restaurants & hotels (12.2 percent vs 22.9 percent), transport (41.9 percent vs 54.1 percent) and health (80.7 percent vs 110.7 percent). Miscellaneous goods & services inflation, on the other hand, accelerated to 22.7 percent from 3.5 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 2.5 percent in March.
