Latest Updates
UK car production rose by 17.1% year-on-year to 79,018 units in March 2025, rising for the first time in a year. The rebound was partly due to a favorable comparison with March 2024, when output was hit by an early Easter break and major model changeovers. The latest uptick was fueled primarily by strong export demand, with overseas shipments surging 30.6% and accounting for 73.3% of total production. In contrast, vehicles produced for the domestic market declined by 6.1%. Electrified vehicle production saw especially strong growth, climbing 38.5% to 31,661 units. These vehicles made up 45.0% of total output in March, underscoring the UK auto industry's accelerating shift toward electric and hybrid models. The EU remained the top destination for UK-built cars, receiving 57.2% of all exports. Ahead of the introduction of new tariffs, the US remained the second largest export market, comprising 15.0% of exports, followed by China (8.5%), Turkey (2.7%) and Japan (2.6%).
