The capacity indexes cover all facilities located in the United States, regardless of their ownership; and are constructed for 89 detailed industries (71 in manufacturing, 16 in mining, and 2 in utilities).

The overall rate sits 2.2 percentage points below its long-term average (1972–2024). In the manufacturing sector, capacity utilization edged up 0.1 point to 76.8%, still 1.4 points below its historical norm. The mining sector saw a 0.7-point gain to 90.6%, standing 4.1 points above its long-run average. However, the utilities sector slipped 1.6 points to 68.6%, staying well below its long-term average.
