XRP (XRP) traded lower on Tuesday as a fresh oil surge and renewed Iran war fears darkened the macro outlook, overshadowing bullish XRP-specific catalysts, including Ripple’s flagship Tokyo conference and fresh optimism around the XRP Ledger’s early work on post-quantum security.
The XRP/USD exchange rate was down 1.14% intraday and 3.79% from its weekly high, while trading for as low as $1.30 on Tuesday. Its declines accompanied whipsaw moves elsewhere in the risk market, with Nasdaq futures slumping 0.46%.
Trump said Monday that Iran has until 8 pm ET on Tuesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face US strikes on key infrastructure, though he noted he pushed the deadline back by a day because he felt action “the day after Easter” would be inappropriate.
He added that talks were still underway and that other countries were helping mediate.
At the same time, Axios reported that the US, Iran, and regional mediators were discussing a two-phase plan, starting with a 45-day ceasefire, that could open the door to a permanent settlement.
The macro driver remained oil. Brent traded above $110, and US crude above $113 as markets braced for continued threats to Strait of Hormuz flows.
This setup has revived fears of another inflation shock and a longer period of tight monetary policy, thus providing a bearish outlook for riskier assets like XRP.

Ripple, as title sponsor, has senior executives on stage, including Christina Chan (Ecosystem Growth), Tatsuya Kohrogi, and Markus Infanger (RippleX).
They are discussing XRPL ecosystem expansion, institutional adoption, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, DeFi growth, and XRP’s role in efficient cross-border payments.
Other participants include representatives from SBI Ripple Asia, a16z Crypto, Securitize Japan, and Rakuten.
Sessions emphasize practical utility: every new app adds value, every user boosts liquidity, and every transaction strengthens XRP. The conference is generating strong community buzz and positive sentiment around the XRPL in Asia.
XRP gained a fresh long-term narrative after Grayscale highlighted Google research showing that post-quantum security is no longer a vague future goal but a technically clear upgrade path.
The paper says post-quantum cryptography is already a mature field, with tools deployed in internet security and some blockchain use cases.
For XRP, the key point is execution: the XRP Ledger is already experimenting with post-quantum cryptography, placing it among the few major networks taking early practical steps rather than waiting for the threat to become urgent.
That could improve XRPL’s appeal as institutions start paying closer attention to blockchain resilience.
