Analyst Outlook

NASDAQ sees very little change in its attitude over the last week, with the headlines continuing to be based on energy inflation and potential moves in the AI world. The artificial intelligence trade has been the biggest driver of the index, and it seems very unlikely that will change meaningfully.

The market will be watching the bond markets and the rates coming out of them in America. It is worth noting that there are still very high rates, which historically work against growth and tech, but for now, the market continues to ignore that correlation.

Will the Nasdaq go up or down this year?

The biggest fear that I see in the markets will be if rates in the bond markets get out of control. While they have been elevated, they are still relatively stable. The markets will be watching the headlines coming out of the US/Iran conflict, with Trump not liking the latest proposal by the Iranians. Furthermore, there could be concerns about the idea of energy shortages this winter. That being said, as long as the AI story holds up, the NASDAQ has a bit of a cushion.

What would change your view?

A daily close below the 30,000 level could have the market correct a bit, and a close on the daily chart below the 28,000 level could have the NASDAQ correcting aggressively. Also, if the Middle East sees peace break out, it would change the view, making it much more bullish at that point in time.
