In Colombia, the three main components of the consumer price index are: Housing & Utilities (33.1 percent of the total weight); Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (15.1 percent) and Transport (12.9 percent). Others include: Restaurants & Hotels (9.4 percent); Miscellaneous Goods & Services (5.4 percent); Education (4.4 percent) and Information & Communication (4.3 percent). Furnishings, Clothing & Footwear, Recreation & Culture, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco and Health account for the remaining 15.4 percent of total weight. The CPI covers the urban population of 38 capital city departments, including some metropolitan areas, which account for the largest population registered in the country and have the most dynamic economic environment in comparison to the remaining cities of the country.

The annual inflation rate in Colombia eased to 5.05% in May 2025, down from 5.16% in April and slightly below market expectations of 5.1%. This marked the lowest reading since October 2021, reflecting continued progress in curbing price pressures. The slowdown was largely driven by softer inflation in key categories such as transportation (+5.26% vs. +5.29%), housing (+5.82% vs. +6.09%), restaurants and hotels (+7.41% vs. +7.71%), and education (+7.35% vs. +7.38%). Meanwhile, inflation picked up slightly in food (+4.71% vs. +4.61%) and health (+5.34% vs. +5.31%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.32%, below the expected 0.5% and marking the smallest monthly increase since November, following a 0.66% rise in April.
