The retail price index in the Philippines increased by 2.0 percent year-on-year in August 2021, after a 1.8 percent rise in the previous month. Cost rose faster for food (2.1 percent vs 1.7 percent in July), beverages and tobacco (7.0 percent vs 6.9 percent), crude materials (1.4 percent vs 1.6 percent), and manufactured goods (1.1 percent vs 1.0 percent). At the same time, inflation was unchanged for chemicals (at 0.8 percent), machinery and transport equipment (at 0.3 percent), and miscellaneous manufactures articles (at 0.3 percent). Meanwhile, prices of mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials eased (12.7 percent vs 13.0 percent).
